TNT Fruit Lovers Blend™
This new product is based on the original TNT™ Total Nutrition for Tortoises. The TNT Fruit Lovers Blend™ is 25% fruit powders !! This blend of powders was developed for Redfoot Tortoises, but is excellent for all species that include fruit in their diet (box turtles, bearded dragons, iguanas etc.). It has been tested on hatchlings and adults. By using this I have eliminated the need to use any other supplements including calcium powders. All ingredients were chosen for their health benefits, palatability and nutritional content. The result is a mix with balanced amino acids, high calcium and magnesium, low phosphorous and high soluble and insoluble fiber.ingredients:

Cactus Fruit
I have found a source of cactus fruit. This is a seasonal item so quantities are limited. Each fruit is de-spined by hand although you may find a stray that I missed. The fruit is high in calcium and vitamins. Its loaded with bioflavinoids and anti-oxidents. |
Cactus Pads (spineless)Spineless Opuntia cactus is an excellent addition to any diet (including ours). This time of year it can be hard to find. I have found a new source and I should be able to supply it year round.

Russian Tortoise Seed MixesThis mix contains a wide variety of seeds such as chia, timothy grass and other grasses and clover. Newly added to the mix are plantain, Kentucky blue grass, wheat grass chicory and more. The seeds germinate at different rates and most should sprout in 2 weeks. The seeds we pick are picked for their nutritional content including essential fatty acids and also the ability to bounce back from grazing. If you have an already established grazing area, just sprinkle the seeds and water daily until they sprout. For starting a new area, rake the soil, water and press the seeds down by lightly walking over the area. Be sure to spread the seeds evenly and water lightly (so as not to wash the seeds away) daily until they sprout.
Allow
6 weeks of growth before letting the tortoise graze to give the
plants a chance to grow some and develop a good root system. These
can also be grown in trays. Cat litter boxes work great. For substrate I
use the coconut coir/sand mix from cage cleaning..
For a
continuous supply of graze, start a new tray weekly Wheat Grass Seeds
Wheatgrass is the young grass shoots of the wheat berry. The wheatgrass plant contains high concentrations of chlorophyll, active enzymes, amino acids, vitamins, and other nutrients. Wheatgrass is one of the richest sources of vitamin A and vitamin C, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, sodium, sulfur, zinc, cobalt, and protein. |
